Point of Light

We are honored to present the Point of Light Award to Mike and Lori (Gross) Hertel for their deep commitment to TMP-Marian and the Hays Community.  Mike is a 1973 graduate of Thomas More Prep and Lori is a 1974 graduate of Marian High School.  They have two children, Michelle '97 and Craig '04, and four granddaughters, Jenna, Paige, Sophie and Mya.  Mike works with their family owned businesses, Hertel Oil Company and Hertel Tank Service.  Lori works as an accounting specialist for the City of Hays, City Clerk/Finance Office.  They received the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award, were 2018 Homecoming Grand Marshals and received the 2012 Ellis County Conservation Award for Outstanding Wildlife Habitat Practices.  Mike and Lori are active members of St. Joseph Parish.  Mike is a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1325 and Lori belongs to the Daughters of Isabella, Circle #254.  Mike is an annual volunteer for the ACE Auction and donates his time and equipment on many projects around the school building and grounds.  They annually donate one of the cash prizes for ACE as well as give of their time, talents and treasures in many different areas of their alma mater.  Strong family values, work ethic and volunteerism were qualities handed down to them by their parents and they have passed these same qualities to their children and grandchildren.  We extend our sincere appreciation to Mike and Lori for their many years of service and extraordinary generosity to the Catholic parishes, schools and Hays community.
